When a crusher produces fewer tons per hour, the solution is not always to increase the power. Performance depends on how the material, blades, bedknife, rotor and evacuation system interact.
Condition and geometry of the blades
A rounded edge compresses and drags the material instead of cutting it. This increases torque, generates heat and accelerates wear. Blade orientation, available height, and complete contact with the blade holder should also be checked.
Separation in front of the bedknife
Excessive slack produces long strips and uneven cutting; Too little separation increases the risk of contact. The adjustment must be carried out with measuring instruments and taking into account the tolerances of the rotor.
Stable feeding
Intermittent overloads cause frequent reversals and reduce average production. Sorting material, removing metal, and controlling hydraulic thrust help maintain a continuous cut.
Screening and evacuation
The perforation diameter determines the final size, but a screen that is too restrictive increases recirculation. The shape, thickness and condition of the holes must be adapted to the plastic and the intended capacity.
Measure cost per ton
The best blade is not necessarily the hardest, but the one that offers stable production, fewer stops and a reasonable number of sharpenings. Compare hours, tons, consumption and damage to choose material and geometry.
Consult the crusher brands available and request a proposal for compatible blades or spare parts.
Diagnosis before changing components
The analysis must begin by comparing the current situation with a period of correct operation. Record tons per hour, consumption, number of inversions, temperature and output size. If the loss was gradual, attrition is a likely candidate; If it appeared suddenly, jams, damage, adjustments and material changes should be checked.
Influence of pusher and feed
In single-shaft crushers, excessive pressure can overload the rotor and cause reversals. Insufficient pressure reduces filling. The fit depends on geometry, density and shape of the residue. Pre-feeding should avoid ungraspable packages and remove metals.
Balance between production and size
Reducing screen drilling is not a free improvement. The material needs more cuts before exiting and the load increases. Sometimes it is more efficient to pre-shred and reserve the fine size for a granulator mill.
Controlled test plan
- Measure the starting point with the same material.
- Correct edges and separation.
- Clean and check the sieve.
- Adjust feeding without modifying several variables at the same time.
- Compare tons, consumption and output quality.
Frequently asked questions
Does a harder blade always last longer?
Not when there are blows or bends. It can dent sooner than a more tenacious quality.
Why does the material get hot?
Due to blunt edges, excessive recirculation, friction, poor evacuation or unstable feeding.
When to check the knife holder?
Whenever there are repeated breaks, irregular heights or difficulty maintaining tightness.
A reliable upgrade must reduce cost per ton, not just increase instantaneous production.
